Rene Descartes (1596-1650)

This video is an overview of the philosophy of Rene Descartes.  Cartesian dualism set the stage for the development of science in the modern world.  The mind, completely separated from material reality, is hopelessly subjective and separate from the 'real' objective world that is best understood mathematically by positive science.  Husserl's Phenomenology is a reaction against this philosophical orientation.
